'Pinocchio', the 2014-released South Korean drama, is directed by Jo Soo-won and Shin Seung-woo and written by Park Hye-Ryun.

The idealistic Choi In Ha has her work cut out for her when she becomes a broadcast journalist, especially when she suffers from a condition known as “Pinocchio syndrome,” which makes her break out into hiccups whenever she tells a lie. Her rookie colleagues include Choi Dal Po, whose shabby appearance masks his true eloquence and sharp memory; Seo Bum Jo, a wealthy heir who has had everything handed to him in life; and Yoon Yoo Rae, whose fangirl knowledge comes in handy in covering the news. The 20-something newbie reporters pursue justice as they try to discover themselves in the process.

Today, I want to do another drama review which is called 'Pinocchio', staring Lee Jong Suk and Park Shin Hye. It is directed by Jo Soo Won, and the screemplay is by Park Hye Ryun. It aired on November 12, 2014 to January 15, 2015 on SBS station for 20 episodes.

Long Summary

An upright head fireman family life was destroyed after the fireman was died while doing his job to help people who were caught in the fire. Instead the media blamed him for causing his other coworkers deaths for persuading them to the building that was on fire. After that, the fireman family was ignored by their surrounding and the elder son of the family left home and did not come back for a while. And the mother, the fireman's wife, took her left younger son to the seaside and tried to commit suiside. She died, but her younger son was helped by an old man who was happened to be at the sea that time. To the old man, the child reminded him of his elder son who died 40 years ago. The man adopted the son and gave him his own elder son named Choi Dalpo. Some times went by and another son of the old man and his daughter, Choi In Ha come to live with them after his divorce with his wife. Dalpo and In Ha became friends but after learning that her mother was in fact the reporter that made up his father's fault and destroyed his family life, Dalpo became conflicted with the hatred for the for the mother and the fondness for the daughter. Since her childhood, In Ha has this Pinocchio syndrone in which whenever she lied she would had hiccups. They all grew up and she wanted to become a reporter like her mother but it was difficult because of her Pinocchio syndrone. Nevertheless, both In Ha and Dalpo managed to become reporters. Dalpo would later find his elder brother still living, and In Ha would learned about how her mother had wronged Dalpo's family. Because of her righteous mind, In Ha would take side with Dalpo against her mother.

However, there were much more behind the incidents that was actually seen. Being reporters together, there will be more cases they would have to solve.

Review

Spoilers

Mr Kang Chul from W brought me here. And I am not disappointed at all. To me Dalpo is very interesting hero. I like how he was a round character. His emotions were conflicted. His righteous mind, his fondness for In Ha and his hatred for the one that destroyed his family life were all conflicted to him. In the drama, he was known as genius who learn things quickly, he can made lots of mistakes too.

Dalpo is very very different from Kang Chul who I think is more mature and charismatic. Dalpo is in fact more like an ordinary emotional person who was sometimes conflicted and can't make the right decision but nevertheless will eventually stay on the right side.

Lee Jong Suk brings perfect Dalpo. I just see how talented my bias is because he let see Dalpo as a completely different person from Kang Chul.

And In Ha is definetly one of the heroines I really adore. She is a quicky person but an upright person as well and hardly give up in something she was into. Despite the fact that she has her pinocchio syndrone, she would like to become a report to fight for the truth.

And yep..I have adored Park Shin Hye since Tree of Heaven, You're Beautiful and Heart Strings. In here, I think she's a little more quicky. But I like her portrayal a lot.

In Ha's grandfather(Byun Hee Bong) and father(Shin Jung Keun) were so likable.

I could they are such warm funny family persons to both Dalpo and In Ha even they had flaws as well.

In fact, I like how all characters here were flawed.

Seo Bum Jo

He is a so very lovable second lead lol..I don't have second lead syndrone though for the love story. I like how he was very straight forward with his feelings. But he would rather do the right thing than to get what he wanted. I just love how he would sacrifice himself for his mother who loved him dearly.

Gyo Dong(Lee Pil Mo) and Yoo Rae(Lee Yoo Bi) are also likable.

I think he was such righteous reporter who actually feel sorry for Dalpo family incident and would work with righteous news and gave many good advices to Dalpo.

Transplanting asparagus. And she is just so funny in the way she try her best for job as a reporter.

I think these two really suit except that he is way older than her.

Song Cha Ok(Jin Kyung)

She is In Ha's mother. A smart looking reporter that can destroyed people lives by her words .lol

I don't like her at all although she had reasonable reasons to the things she did. Though her character was made to tone down a lot and did the righteous thing in the end, I wish she suffered more than what she did even she had her reasons for her actions. Yep, I am such a cruel person. Was she portrayed as a coward person?

Madame Park Rosa (Kim Hae Sook)

I know she was such a two face person. With her son Seo Bum Jo she was such a sweet mother. Yet, she was also a person behind the bad incidents. She was such a cold person who could do anything for herself and her son. But it is love her son that I think she reached her downfall. Yet she is still the same greedy person to end. And yet I could still feel for her for the love she had for her son.

Madame Kim Hae Sook brought such a stong performance that is hard not to admire especially when she plays her emotions with her eyes.

Ki Jae Myeon (Yoon Gyun Sang)

Dalpo's blood related real elder brother. He became murderer when he thought he lost everyone he loved. Therefore he would kill those who involved in destroying his family. It is so believable on how he became like that. But I could not hate him at all. In fact, I feel so much for him. And I like how he brave he was and is able to admit the crimes he did, and is also has upright to give good advices to Dalpo from his prison cell.

I was just so badly disappointed that in the end of thia drama, he still did not come out of his prison and was not there when In Ha and Dalpo were trying their wedding dresses with In Ha's grandfather and father.

But yep..overall, it is a wonderful journey and I had such an emotional ride. I really like how they mixed the love story between Dalpo and In Ha with the family love as well.

As for the theme songs I am not much feeling them.

By rating I would give this drama 9/10.

Although I watched it along with Scarlet Heart Ryeo, I finished this one first.

Ok..that comes to my conclusion of the drama review on Pinocchio.
