If you want to see Phuket in the best way, go for a flight in paramotor trike. I wanted to get my paramotor licence, so did a trike flight and a full paramotor course here. After a lot of research I chose Sky Club Asia, because it is fully owned and run by Americans and Europeans, using their US+EU standards for safety and maintenance.

Fly in a trike; in a 20 min. Flight I saw Phuket, mountains, and the islands off the coast.

The paramotor trike was fast, looked almost brand new and very comfortable. First time ever in a trike, wonderful. Paramotor course; I wanted to learn to fly the paramotor myself, so did a full paramotor course. My instructor was mostly Mark (US) and later Paul (EU). Both very experienced pilots and instructors. I chose to do my course here, because I wanted native English speaking instructors, EU quality standards (and not Thai) and fully licensed. This was the only place I found in Thailand that had all of these.

The first days of ground handling are a bit sweaty, but the rewards of solo flight are totally worth it. Bring: sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, running shoes Schedule: for the best weather conditions for flying and avoiding the mid day heat, training is done in morning 7:30-9:30 a.m. And late afternoon sessions 16:30-18:00 (flexible). You’ll need perhaps 4-8 of these sessions for the ground handling and 3-4 for the flying? I would recommended taking your time though. Sometimes I hung out at the airfield in the time in between, talking to the pilots, chill out in the shade, look at other planes taking off, sometimes I went to the excellent air conditioned restaurant across the street.

Accommodation tip: I stayed at leamhin lagoon resort, an affordable place, 20min motorbike ride away from the airfield. Closer to the airfield would have been nice, but I liked this place (empty, but with pool, working AC, scooter rental and only 800B per night).

Driving around Phuket you can get the impression that the Island is all roads and buildings, but in reality the vast majority of the Phuket is lush and green; you just don't realize how much rainforest there is here until you take to the air! If you want to see Phuket from above, take a relaxing flight with Sky Club Asia!

They offer scenic flights as well as Paramotoring and Paragliding lessons. Mark at Sky Club Asia is a very experienced pilot and instructor-he has even been involved in manufacturing the fabric 'parachute' type wings used on these machines. For the best conditions, he limits flights to the hours around sunrise and sunset. Going up with him in the 2 seat Paramotor is an experience in itself.

Paramotor

There are no windows (great for photography!) so you're out in the breeze, but you feel secure strapped into this solid, sturdy machine. I was expecting it to be a little cold out in the open air, and noisy with the engine just behind me, but I was very comfortable in my shorts and shirt, and I was having so much fun looking around I barely noticed the motor! If you get the bug, you can take lessons and get a license of your own with Sky Club Asia.

I was surprised how inexpensive this is (comparable to SCUBA diving actually!). It's not often you hear the words 'inexpensive' and 'flying lessons' in the same sentence! Sky Club Asia is located at a private airfield on the east side of Phuket, about halfway down the length of the Island. They have plenty of parking space, drinks, toilets and numerous aviation enthusiasts pottering about with various flying machines!

Even if you don't want to take to the air, it's a cool place to hang out. Turn right at Heroines Monument if you are coming from Phuket Town, drive on for no more than ten minutes and you will see a big sign on your right for the airfield.

While you are in this area, you can also visit the Gibbon Rehabilitation Center and Bang Pae Waterfall. On a nice day, you could just turn up in the late afternoon and Mark will most likely be able to take you flying, but if you want to be sure, look for 'Sky Club Asia' on Facebook and get in touch with him. After moving down to Phuket a few months ago, I came across Sky Club Asia who do scenic rides as well as Paramotoring courses. No previous experience is needed and if weather is permitting you can be going solo within a few days. The two ground instructors there (Mark and Paul) are exceptionally friendly and welcoming and bring a wealth of knowledge when it comes to flying and giving instruction. I cannot stress enough how enjoyable this course was to do. This is all down to the great location and the fantastic guiys who run Sky Club Asia.

I recently went back there after my course was completed and enjoyed more hours of flying with the guys. I highly recommend anyone interested in Paramotoring to head down there and even go for a scenic flight with the guys in the dual trike. Thanks again and hats off to Mark and Paul. I recently completed a Paramotoring (Powered Paragliding) course with Sky Club Asia at their Phuket Air Park base. The course began with 3 days (delayed slightly due weather) of ground instruction and kiting practice. Following successful completion of the ground-based training one is sent on a radio assisted 'first solo' flight. The course included 3 more solo flights to build competence and experience.

The course was run professionally by the co-owners of the business; Mark and Paul. They offered personalised service and were adaptable with their training programs.

Both the gentlemen have a wealth of experience not just in teaching PPG, but in the wider aviation industry. As instructors they are able to pass on their knowledge with ease and confidence. I have been flying at the school on an ad-hoc basis since completing the course and have been provided with great advice and mentorship from both Mark and Paul. As a part-time Phuket resident I have sent many of my visiting friend for joy flights at Sky Club Asia.

All reviews have been positive. I would highly recommended Sky Club Asia for both PPG training and joy flights.
