Even 3 levels of Warlock are pretty good for Rogue, so you get that sweeeeet Shadow Blade.
The only issue is that the subclass you chose dont offer much to rogue and is VERY bonus action intensive, which undermines one of the main features of the rogue. It will still work, since rogues benefits too much from the spells and invocations of Warlock, but unless you're planning on going like 6 levels into warlock (which I dont think is a good idea), you'll probably be better with any other subclass (you can get SOME benefit from the level 6 feature, that's what I mean).Ok, I hate being that person, but you'll probably be better with Hexblade (what a shock, the broken subclass). You can easily reflavor it, people will think you're going for a Fjord here even more, but look. Improved Crit AND Charisma for Attack and Damage are just TOO good for a Swashbuckler Rogue.I hate Hexblade, really. It's dumb and always the better choice. Well that’s the beauty of the subclass you wanted with Lurker.
Sure it’s a bonus action heavy class, but Swashbucklers have much less Cunning Action reliance on disengaging than the other rogue subclasses. You could for example, Booming Blade (+sneak attack from Rakish Audacity), back up, and hit them with a tentacle. They chase you, take Booming Blade trigger damage, and can’t even reach you because their movement was reduced by your tentacle. Now this wouldn’t be much of a big deal for some of the more intelligent enemies who might decide to attack your other friends on the frontline and ignore you when you try and run off. But again, Swashbuckler has n answer for that in their 9th level feature Panache which is a wonderful taunt feature that’ll force a lot of enemies to give chase whether they can reach you or not. I’m currently playing a swashbuckler 3/hexblade X, and i’ve built around using booming blade.
Ok, that was actually 80% of the time but that’s ok. In a game that lives in the moment, having to pause and deal with that interface is a real bummer. I took risks, I acted brashly, and at times I felt like I was doing the wrong thing. The Flame in the Flood is a fun experience that is bogged down by a clunky and frustrating interface.
It’s not the only option, just the one I went with.Usually, a rogue with booming blade will always be using it’s bonus action to disengage and force enemies to come after them, triggering the extra damage. Warlocks in general have a lot of bonus action uses, lurker having the tentacle that it wants to be using every round, which causes a problem with rogue and booming blade. Luckily the swashbuckler can attack an enemy and move away without taking the disengage bonus action, which makes it a good synergy to have.Hex is less powerful since you’ll likely only be taking a single attack, and it will delay the summoning of the tentacle. I’m also unsure whether the tentacle would trigger it.I would grab eldritch blast for range, but I haven’t focused on it much, and haven’t seen a large decrease in power. In terms of invocations, mask of many faces works well if you’re the face, combined with expertise. Burn zombie burn ps3 games. The devil’s sight/darkness combo is often unnecessary to trigger sneak attack because of the swashbuckler ability. Beyond that, I have no real advice.3 levels of rogue are the absolute minimum, and at least 1 level of warlock, though I would go up to 3 levels of warlock for the second level spells like invisibility or hold person. Afterwards, it’s really up to you.
